MATX Practicum FA 2007 Semester Projects

Fall 2007 Practicum Requirements:

Web Page

A Media Art and Text web page hosted on the RamSites server.
This page will serve as the staging ground or will link to all of the semester's projects.

While your RamSites site is limited to 22mb, we also have space on a video server where you can store large files and then simply link to them from your RamSites page.

Web Log (Blog)

A Media Art and Text web log (Blog).

Because we do not yet have .php or mysql available to us on our RamSites server, you will have to use a blogging service separate from your RamSites page.

Blogger, at www.blogger.com.
Wordpress, which now has a free web log at www.wordpress.com.
VCU's Blogging service, blog.vcu.edu.

Audio Project

Record a five minute anecdote, trade the recording with a partner, and then edit the recording into a new narrative.

Video Project

A two minute video. One option:
A Sparky Awards Video, www.sparkyawards.org.

Flash Project

Take a stanza donated from a poet and translate it onto the computer using Flash. Must include audio, video, photography and animation in some form.

A mySpace Page

Social networking in practice. Blackbird has a mySpace page.
Assigned PEER PRESSURE!

Contribute to the Media Art and Text Wiki

To help define some of the terms you'll hear bandied around in class, we hope to create a Wiki devoted only to MATX terminology and bibliography. I'm also working on a Flash based user interface for a timeline of related technological gobbledygook.
If you're interested in helping with that, let me know.

Odds and Ends

You should each have a sketchbook for MATX, where you jot down or draw whatever strikes your fancy. You're going to share that book with your fellow students, so don't keep anything in there you wouldn't want all of us to see.
In the book should go things like your user interface designs for your web page, and also, please we need a LOGO for the MATX department, that could ideally be made into a letterhead and associated print materials.
While we would like to have one main logo, which we'll all vote on, we'll also need designs for T-Shirts, posters etc.

p.s. Gobbledygook is in the Dreamweaver spell check dictionary. I didn't think it would be.
